medac Pharma launch education platform, medac Academy

medac Pharma have launched a new digital education platform for UK healthcare professionals, medac Academy. Initially with content created for Urology nurses it features a range of 6 interactive modules which give a comprehensive evidence-based overview of Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (NMIBC), from diagnosis and staging, to the more practical side of intravesical administration, finishing off with case studies which consolidate nurses learning from the modules using a ‘real life’ setting.
The NMIBC modules and case studies were written by Consultant Urologist Hugh Mostafid (Royal Surrey Hospital) and Clinical Nurse Specialist Kathryn Chatterton (Guys and St Thomas’) who have previously hosted practical workshops with medac Pharma for Urology nurses. Both Kathryn and Hugh are well known in the field of Urology and involved with EAUN and EAU respectively. They have drawn from their own experiences to create the module content.
When asked who will benefit from the medac Academy platform in Urology Kathryn Chatterton said, “I think they will benefit a whole range of nurses, from those newly qualified who want to learn more about bladder cancer, to nurses wanting to undertake intravesical therapy and experienced nurses who will be able to use this to recap and refresh on the literature available.”
The content has been accredited by the CPD Certification Service and will allow nurses to undertake the modules as part of their Continued Professional Development. This can be done at a time that suits each individual and the design of the modules allows nurses to pick up where they left off when returning to them after a break.
Paula Alchorne, President Elect of EAUN has reviewed the educational content and has praised them for consolidating clinical information and guidelines on NMIBC in one space as this is something that has not been easily accessible in the past;
“I have been a urology nurse for more than 25 years, I could only have hoped for a course like this when I first started treating patients with intravesical treatments. I found it covered a wide breadth of urology knowledge and made me think about certain components. It covers a range of different topics including case studies which I thought was a great idea. I will definitely get the rest of my Bladder Cancer CNSs to do the online course.”
Group Product Manager for Oncology and Urology at medac Pharma, Alex Riley comments, “We know that Bladder Cancer nurses really appreciated the Workshops we held previously as a place to learn from their peers so ensured Urology content for our Education Platform was a priority. We are delighted the modules have been received so well and hope that they will be useful to urology nurses at all stages in their career.”
The company plan to continually release new educational content for UK healthcare professionals in different formats over a number of therapeutic areas including rheumatology and oncology.
